Spring is its stellar moment, when the fragrance of flowers such as orange blossom and jasmine always accompany you, especially in a month of May brimming with traditional festivals in Córdoba. The Mosque-Cathedral, the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, the Synagogue and the Roman bridge exemplify the historic center of Córdoba. A city that reflects its Roman past and the coexistence of Christian, Islamic and Jewish cultures throughout its history. Among the most recommended visits, the Jewish quarter, the Torre de Calahorra, the Roman theater, the Royal Stables, the Plaza de la Corredera... A good way to get to know the city is guided tours of its monuments or touring the thematic routes proposed from the tourist offices and among which are the Roman Cordoba, the route of the Caliphate or the Fernandina route through the medieval churches. Just 10 kilometers from the city and with direct bus connections, is the largest archaeological complex in Spain, Medina Azahara, the site of what was the capital of the Caliphate and declared a World Heritage Site since 2018. The charm of the city goes beyond its monumentality. A walk will discover a network of narrow streets (don't forget to go through the Callejón de la Luna and the Calleja de las Flores), squares, fountains and patios decorated with flowers. In fact, the great festivals of Córdoba revolve around these spaces. The Patios Festival, declared a World Heritage Site, stands out, but in May the May Crosses, the Battle of Flowers and the Rejas y Balcones contest are also celebrated. At that time, the city is filled with flowers, there are flamenco shows in the open air and a festive atmosphere in the street. The month concludes with the Cordoba Fair.Pleasures made in CórdobaGoing for tapas, savoring the typical dishes of popular gastronomy, discovering equestrian art, enjoying a flamenco show in a tablao or relaxing in an Arab bath are special experiences in Córdoba. The best known areas to go for tapas are the old town and the neighborhoods of San Lorenzo, San Andrés and Santa Marina. You have to try Cordovan specialties such as salmorejo (mainly tomato-based cold soup), flamenquín (breaded pork loin roll), eggplants with honey, mazamorra (almond-based cold soup), Iberian ham from Los Pedroches, Zuheros cheese and Montilla-Moriles wine. You can enjoy the equestrian art and culture of the Andalusian horse throughout the year with shows in the Royal Stables. For its part, in the historic center there are many tablaos where flamenco music and dance performances are common. Finally, you can enjoy the experience of relaxing in a modern hamman in the Arab baths that you will find in the Jewish quarter area or by reserving the 'Andalusí Experience' at Turismo de Córdoba.
