Once called Villa de Samuel or Samuelle, later Samuelle de Real-o-Novo and then Real-o-Novo, to discover the origin of the parish of Semelhe it is necessary to go back in time to the era of Romanization, where we find roots of this ancient village. Martinho de Geraldes, a native of this parish. However, and despite the importance of this event, until the nineteenth century (1891), Semelhe was annexed to the neighboring parish of Parada de Tibães.
