The capital city of Amsterdam (about 53 km) is also very accessible. You can stop off at Zaanse Schans on the way to Amsterdam. This village is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for good reason. There is plenty for the kids to do as well: in Enkhuizen (about 37 km) for example you will find the nice Zuiderzee Museum, where they can learn to write like in 1930, play old Dutch games and make their own skipping rope from plants. The Sprookjeswonderland fairy-tale theme park is also located close by. Landgoed Hoenderdaell animal park is also a great destination for a daytrip. Amidst all the hustle and bustle you will also find tranquil nature areas such as the Schoorlse Dunes and great cycling routes that start at the park and lead through the North Holland countryside.
